Polishing Terms
RA ( Average Roughness) - The average roughness is the area between
the roughness profile and its mean line, or the Integral of the absolute
value of the roughness profile height over the evaluation length.
Number designation indicates degree of polish by numbering system from
3 to 8. The degree of polish increases as the number of designation
increases (I. E. a #4 finish is less polished than a #7 finish).
Grit designation indicates sanding grit size used for the finish polish. The
grit size decreases as the number designation increases. The degree of
polish increases as the grit number increases.
